Privacy Policy

How SubhLagan collects, uses, shares and protects your personal information — and the choices you have about it.

01

Who We Are and What This Policy Covers

Subhlagan.com Private Limited ("SubhLagan", "we", "us") operates a personalised matrimonial matchmaking service. When you register with us or use our website, member portal or related services, we decide why and how your personal data is handled. In the language of the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, that makes us a Data Fiduciary and you a Data Principal.

This policy applies to the SubhLagan website, the member portal, and the matchmaking service delivered by our Matchmaking Experts. It explains what we collect, why, who it reaches, how long we keep it, and what you can ask us to do about it.

It does not apply to any third-party website you reach through a link from ours. If any part of this policy is unclear, please contact us using the details at the end before you share information with us.

02

Information We Collect

We collect only what the matchmaking service needs. Most of it you give us directly, either through the enquiry form or during conversations with your Matchmaking Expert.

Information you provide

  • Contact details — name, email address, phone number and any alternate number, city and country.
  • Profile details — date of birth, gender, height, marital status, community, education, occupation, income range, family background, lifestyle preferences and partner expectations.
  • Photographs and documents you choose to share, including biodata documents, preference forms and horoscope or kundali details.
  • Who is registering — whether the profile is created by the individual, a parent, sibling, relative or friend.
  • Correspondence — messages, call notes and feedback exchanged with your Matchmaking Expert.

Information collected automatically

  • Technical data needed to operate and secure the service — IP address, browser and device type, pages visited, and the time of access.
  • Security and audit records — sign-in events, session activity and actions taken on your profile, retained so that we can investigate misuse.

Some of what a matrimonial profile naturally contains — community, religion, health information, or details of family circumstances — is more sensitive than ordinary contact data. We treat it accordingly and ask that you share only what you are comfortable having considered as part of a match.

Please do not send us payment card numbers, bank credentials, government identifier numbers or any password by email, chat or through the enquiry form. We will never ask for them that way.

03

Why We Use Your Information

We use your information for the following purposes and no others:

  • To understand your requirements and identify suitable matches.
  • To prepare and present your profile to prospective matches you have agreed to be introduced to.
  • To arrange introductions, meetings and follow-up between families.
  • To communicate with you by phone, email, SMS and WhatsApp about your profile, your matches and your membership.
  • To administer your account, including issuing and managing your login.
  • To keep the service secure, prevent misuse, and investigate suspected fraud or abuse.
  • To meet our legal, regulatory and record-keeping obligations, and to establish or defend legal claims.
  • To improve how the service works, using aggregated information that does not identify you.

We do not use your information for automated decision-making that produces a legal or similarly significant effect on you. A person always reviews and decides which profiles are introduced to you.

04

Consent and the Basis for Using Your Information

We rely on your consent. You give it when you submit an enquiry and accept this policy, and again when you agree to a specific introduction. Your consent must be free, informed, specific and unambiguous, and it covers only the purposes described above.

Consent given for one purpose does not extend to another. In particular, agreeing to join the service is not by itself agreement that any specific profile of yours may be shared — that is confirmed separately with your Matchmaking Expert before an introduction is made.

You may withdraw consent at any time by contacting us. Withdrawal takes effect going forward. It does not undo anything lawfully done while your consent was in place, and it may mean we can no longer provide the matchmaking service. Where we are required by law to keep certain records, we will keep those and stop using them for matchmaking.

Where we need to keep records to comply with a legal obligation, or to establish, exercise or defend a legal claim, we may retain and use the minimum necessary for that purpose even after consent is withdrawn.

05

Who Your Information Is Shared With

We do not sell your personal data. We do not share it for anyone else's advertising. Sharing happens only in the circumstances set out below.

With prospective matches

  • Your profile is shared with prospective matches selected by your Matchmaking Expert, and only with your agreement to that introduction.
  • Your direct contact details are not published and are not included in a profile shared for consideration. Contact between families is arranged through us unless both sides agree otherwise.
  • Profiles are not publicly searchable and are not visible to anyone browsing the site.

With our staff

  • Your assigned Matchmaking Expert and the colleagues supporting your case can see your profile. Access is limited by role and is recorded.

With service providers who work on our behalf

  • Cloud hosting and storage — our systems and stored documents are hosted on Amazon Web Services infrastructure located in India.
  • Messaging — WhatsApp Business services operated by Meta, used to send verification codes and service notifications.
  • Email delivery — used to send service messages and internal notifications.
  • Document processing — where you send us a biodata document or preference form, we may use an automated text-extraction service operated by Anthropic PBC in the United States to read the details into a draft profile. The extracted result is always reviewed by a person before it is used. See section 6 on transfers outside India.

Service providers act on our instructions, may use your data only to perform the service they provide to us, and are bound by confidentiality obligations.

For legal and safety reasons

  • Where we are required to disclose information by law, by a court, or by a lawful request from a government authority.
  • Where disclosure is necessary to investigate suspected fraud, protect the safety of a member, or establish, exercise or defend a legal claim.
  • To professional advisers, or in connection with a reorganisation or transfer of our business, in which case the recipient remains bound by this policy.
06

Transfers Outside India

Your information is stored in India. The one routine exception is the document-processing service described in section 5, which is operated from the United States and is used only to read the text of a biodata document or preference form you have sent us.

Where information is processed outside India, we require the provider to protect it to a standard consistent with this policy and to use it only for the purpose we have engaged them for. We do not transfer personal data to any country to which such transfer is restricted by the Central Government.

If you would prefer that documents you send us are not put through automated extraction, tell your Matchmaking Expert and we will enter the details manually instead.

07

How Long We Keep It

We keep personal data only for as long as it is needed for the purpose it was collected for.

  • Active members — for the duration of your membership and while we are actively working on your matchmaking.
  • After membership ends or consent is withdrawn — we erase or anonymise your profile and documents unless a longer period is required for the reasons below. Many families return to us after a pause, so we will confirm your preference before erasing.
  • Enquiries that do not become memberships — retained for a reasonable period so that we can respond to you, then erased.
  • Security, audit and access records — retained for up to 90 days, and longer where required for an ongoing investigation.
  • Records we must keep by law, or that are needed to establish, exercise or defend a legal claim — retained for the period required, then erased.

When a retention period ends we erase the data or remove the details that identify you. You can ask us at any time to erase your data sooner, and we will do so unless we are required to keep it.

08

How We Protect Your Information

We take reasonable security safeguards to prevent personal data being lost, accessed without authorisation, disclosed, altered or destroyed. These include restricting access to staff who need it for their role, protecting information in storage and while it travels between your device and our systems, keeping records of access to member data, and reviewing our systems and processes.

We do not publish the specifics of our security arrangements, because doing so assists anyone attempting to defeat them.

No system can be guaranteed completely secure, and we do not claim otherwise. If a breach occurs that affects your personal data, we will act on it and notify you and the Data Protection Board of India as required.

Your own account security matters too. Keep your password to yourself, do not reuse it on other sites, and tell us immediately if you think someone else has access to your account.

09

Your Rights

You have the following rights in respect of your personal data. There is no charge for exercising them.

  • Access — ask for a summary of the personal data we hold about you, what we do with it, and who we have shared it with.
  • Correction — have inaccurate or misleading data corrected, incomplete data completed, and out-of-date data updated.
  • Erasure — ask us to erase your personal data where it is no longer needed for the purpose it was collected for and we are not required to keep it.
  • Withdraw consent — as described in section 4.
  • Nominate — nominate another person to exercise these rights on your behalf if you die or become unable to act.
  • Complain — raise a concern with us about how we have handled your data, using the contact details at the end of this policy.

To exercise any of these, contact us using the details at the end of this policy from the email address or phone number registered on your account, so that we can be confident the request is genuinely yours. We may ask for further information to verify your identity, and we will not use anything you provide for that purpose for anything else.

We will respond within 30 days. If a request is manifestly unfounded, excessive or repetitive we may decline it, and we will tell you why and what you can do next.

10

Children

Our service is for adults. Registration requires you to be at least 18 years old, which is also the minimum legal age of marriage for women in India; for men it is 21. We do not knowingly collect personal data relating to a child.

If you believe a profile has been created by or about a person under 18, tell us and we will remove it. We do not use personal data for tracking, behavioural advertising or advertising directed at children.

11

Cookies and Similar Technologies

We use cookies and similar browser storage only where they are needed for the site to work — keeping you signed in, remembering your session and your preferences, and protecting against fraudulent or automated activity. These are strictly necessary and cannot be switched off without breaking the service.

We do not currently use cookies for advertising, cross-site tracking, or profiling. If that changes we will update this policy and, where required, ask for your consent first.

You can block or delete cookies through your browser settings. If you block the strictly necessary ones, you will not be able to sign in.

12

Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy as the service, our practices or the law change. The version identifier is shown at the top and bottom of this page, and every published version is retained so that you can see what you agreed to.

Where a change materially affects how we use your personal data, we will notify you and, where the law requires it, ask for your consent again. Continuing to use the service after a change that does not require fresh consent means the updated policy applies.

This policy should be read together with our Terms of Service, which govern your use of the SubhLagan platform.
